History of Mundaring

The Shire of Mundaring is a local government area situated in the eastern metropolitan region of Perth, Western Australia. Covering an area of 645 square kilometers (249 square miles), the Shire had a population of approximately 38,000 according to the 2016 Census.

Originally established as the Greenmount Road District on 17 April 1903, it was renamed the Mundaring Road District on 29 March 1934. Following the passage of the Local Government Act 1960, which reformed all remaining road districts into shires, it became the Shire of Mundaring on 1 July 1961.
